Dutch Oven

Today I found out my gag reflexes still work. Although I’m happy with the outcome the boys are putting in those diapers, I wasn’t ready for the smell. It wasn’t as bad as I make it sound but it was different. I opened up Braylon’s bed and caught a whiff of what he was cooking. It was probably like a “Dutch Oven” in there. If you don’t know what that is you better ask someone to show ya. The look on his face was priceless as I think he was trying to squeeze the rest out, it was a struggle. The good news was that it wasn’t that tarry stuff, but more of a creamy mustard color like that of what you would put on a sandwich. Think about that next time you want a ham or turkey sandwich, yum. It wasn’t just Braylon squirting out that fine condiment; his little bro Kaden was doing the same thing. That just means they are moving closer to getting out of their baby jails.
I was able to hold Kaden for the first time today. What a character. When I was doing his cares he wanted nothing to do with me, he would squirm and kick all over his bed; not allowing me to finish with his diaper change. He still had his c-pap on but when I was able to pick him up and hold him for the first time it was a great feeling. To me it just means we are that much closer to going home and starting our lives together outside of the NICU. Apparently he has been in a bit of a fuss the last few days and all it took to calm him down was a heart to heart with dad. He laid there on my chest. The nurses keep trying to get me to do skin to skin and keep telling them they don’t want to see the disaster under my shirt. Maybe onetime I’ll try it but it will have to be secluded.
Last night we posted that Braylon was able to start wearing his little preemies. So after his first care today I put on his 1 of 2 onesie that Grandma Brenda made for him and Kaden (2 of 2). It was a struggle to get it on him because his arms and legs were just flailing back and forth. Eventually I put it on him. When we had came back for his next care time; he didn’t have it on. When we had asked the nurse she said he had messed it and they took it off. He wore it for about one and half hours. It was worth a try and now he just hangs out in his pampers. We had some new and old visitors today. Ashley’s mom and dad, grandma Clo, and her aunt and uncle, which was his first time seeing the boys. Also today my papa Ralph and Carol showed up for a visit. Like all first time viewers the three of them were amazed of how small they really are in person. We thought they were a lot bigger or at least I did since I haven’t seen them in a few days. It was a good first and second night back for me; right now it feels like home. I know that I am sleeping a lot better now that I am closer to Ash and the boys.

  2. Your gag reflex will calm down soon and you'll get to be an old pro at changing those really nasty diapers. Gross as it may appear right now, it means the plumbing is working and that's a good thing. The pictures are sweet. I like the one of Kaden looking at Mommy. Look at that beautiful hand!
